Jay Blum vs Kidney Cancer

My name is Jay. I am a father of an awesome 8 year old son, Aidan, and my incredible wife Sheri. We currently live in Columbus, GA.

My story begins in 1990 when I went to my doctor and brought to his attention that the left side of my neck was swollen and out of proportion to the right side.

He recommend me to an awesome oncologist that determined it was an enlarged lymph node. Through biopsy surgery of the lymph node in my neck and my bone marrow, it was determined that I had Stage IIIB Hodgkin's Disease. As a result of the Hodgkin's I was treated with 6 cycles of the most G-d awful chemotherapy and 32 rounds of radiation therapy.

In 2011 I went to the "oh well I am over 40 now doctor" - the Urologist. As a result of that lovely visit, I was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma and had to have my left kidney removed.

In 2012, during one of my follow-up scans, I was diagnosed with Malignant Renal Cell Carcinoma because I now had a tumor in my right kidney. The great team at Emory University Hospital's Cancer Center took care of that tumor by destroying it and some good kidney tissue through a procedure called cryoablation.

In 2014, during a visit to another doctor I was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma and had and in-office surgical proceedure to have that tumor removed from my leg. I do have an awesome scar there now though.

Now, in 2015, during a follow-up scan, I have now been diagnosed with another large tumor in my right kidney and some lesions in my pelvis and lungs which are to small to biopsy and classify. I will be having another round of cryoablation from my friends at Emory University Hospital's Cancer Center where another portion of my one remaining kidney will be killed off along with the tumor.

My goal is as real as is it gets. I wish to raise money to pay for the appointments, travel expenses, and copays my insurance does not cover. I am blessed to have medical insurance however my Wife is not paid for the time off she misses to attend these surgeries, appts, and to help me through my recovery time.

Any help is greatly appreciated through our GoFundMe campaign at gofund.me/w4vx88s and you will be forever remembered by me and my family in our prayers.
